Denzel Washington and Viola Davis in New Fences Trailer

Opening in cinemas in the U.S. on Christmas Day and directed by Washington, Fences is already being touted as a serious Academy Award contender.

A teaser for the upcoming film adaptation of August Wilson's Fences, starring Academy Award victor Denzel Washington and Emmy Award victor Viola Davis, has officially been released.

Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, the film also stars Oscar victor Viola Davis as Rose, the wife to actor-director - and fellow Oscar victor - Washington's Troy.

If you saw The Magnificent Seven, you were treated to the first look at Denzel Washington's other fall film, Fences.

Washington is already a two-time champ at the Academy Awards, winning as Best Supporting Actor for "Glory" (1989) and Best Actor for "Training Day" (2001) among his six career nominations.

In addition to Washington and Davis, Fences stars Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney.

Tell me: are you going to be checking the movie out when it releases this Christmas? Throughout it all, Troy's wife Rose (Davis) tries to hold everything together.

Fences is Washington's third directorial effort, following 2002's Antwone Fisher and 2007's The Great Debaters. When the production was revived in 2010, the lead roles went to Washington and Davis, who were awarded Tonys for their performances.

In 1987, August Wilson's play about a former baseball player facing the racial divide in 1950s Pittsburgh won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.
