Brad Marchand Signs 8-Year Extension With Bruins

Brad Marchand Signs 8-Year Extension With Bruins

The 5-foot-9 winger has dominated so far at the World Cup of Hockey for Team Canada - scoring three goals and recording two assists over four games.

"I have been a Bruin since the start of my pro career, and there is no place I would rather play", Marchand said. The $49 million deal includes a full no-move clause for its first five seasons before a limited no-trade clause kicks in, per ESPN's Craig Custance. And he could slip even further down the list as some outstanding and pending free agents ink deals ahead of the coming season and into next off-season.

With that, you can put to rest any thoughts of Marchand making a jump to the Penguins, a notion raised by Yahoo Sports in recent days given his Team Canada chemistry with Crosby, who is also an offseason training partner.

After scoring two goals against Russian Federation in Canada's win on Saturday, there was speculation that Marchand would ditch the Bruins to play with Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins after this year.

In six seasons with the B's, who drafted him in 2006 (third round, No. 77 overall), Marchand has scored at least 21 goals on five occasions, and netted 18 in 2012-13, which was shortened by lockout to 48 games. "But we'll deal with whatever needs to be dealt with down the road. But for now we'll keep that to here". Brad Marchand gets to stay with the team he's spent his entire National Hockey League career with (454 National Hockey League regular season games and 66 postseason games), and will continue to be a solid combination of speed, scoring, and snarl for the considerable future. "I think they did a good job with it and they should be ready to go [against Columbus]".

Outside of off-ice success, it was Boston's biggest job this campaign to find a way to get Marchand locked up to make sure there was no way he'd be heading elsewhere by the time the 2017-18 season rolled around. "I really believe in our team and our group and what we're working towards".
