The four-term senator has always been critical of Trump, saying after his attack on a federal judge of Mexican heritage that comments like those made it "very difficult" for her to support the Republican nominee.

Donald Trump is seeking to quell concerns he lacks the discipline or policy know-how to make a competent president, even as the list of fellow Republicans deeming him unfit for the Oval Office grows. Lindsey Graham, who ran against Trump for president, have already said they won't vote for Trump.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino on October 8, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Podesta then urged Trump to end his "shenanigans" and agree to join Clinton on the debate stage. There are also suggestions that he may ditch the three scheduled Presidential debates, for which he is widely seen as lacking depth and substance to hold his own against Hillary Clinton.

Rebecca DeHart, the Georgia Democratic Party's executive director who spoke with Clinton campaign leaders, said details of the new spending are still being worked out. It is not clear if he is trying to avoid debates, or merely toying with the press to create more drama. "Either way, our campaign is not interested in playing along with a debate about debates or bargaining around them".

Podesta questioned whether "Trump is going to show up to debate at the date, times, places and formats set by the commission previous year through a bipartisan process".

Hillary Clinton is expanding her presidential battleground map to include the traditionally Republican states of Georgia and Arizona, according to officials aware of the plans. "We will accept the commission's invitation and expect Donald Trump to do the same".

The Trump campaign did not respond to multiple questions from The News over whether the nominee would participate in the debates. Trump has said he wants to debate Clinton but has complained that two of the debates are scheduled during NFL football games, claiming Democrats "rigged" the schedule.

He even claimed that he had received a letter from the league saying that overlap was "ridiculous" - an assertion the NFL quickly and aggressively denied.
