Turkey captures more soldiers suspected in coup

"This coup attempt has actors inside Turkey, but its script was written outside". According to Anadolu, the ministry also complained that because of the ban the president's message had to be read aloud at the demonstration.

Senior Turkish officials rounded on Germany for preventing Erdogan from addressing a rally on Sunday of his supporters in Cologne via video link.

Erdogan said that all economic projects in Turkey are implemented as scheduled.

While there were rumours on social media that security forces were at the ready on worries about another coup attempt, a USA military spokesman at the base said they had not seen an increased Turkish police presence.

A statement from Yildirim's office said during talks, the Turkish prime minister told Dunford that his country wanted the display its stance against the coup in a "clear and determined" way and renewed Turkey's expectation that Gulen and USA -based members of his movement be extradited to Turkey soon.

The minister said that if Gulen leaves the USA, it would be with the full knowledge of US authorities.

Gulen lives in the USA in self-imposed exile, and Turkey is demanding his extradition.

Erdogan has issued two decrees dismissing around 3,000 members of NATO's second-biggest armed forces since the coup, including more than 40 percent of generals.

On Sunday afternoon, thousands held an anti-coup rally in the German city of Cologne, waving Turkish flags and holding banners with Erdogan's picture.

Germany is home to roughly three million people with Turkish roots.

Kurtulmus said anyone associated with Gulen's movement would be purged from the public sector and his government "will show no mercy" toward suspects linked to the coup.

It comes after an announcement last week that more than 1,700 military personnel had been dishonourably discharged for their role in the putsch, which saw a faction of the military commandeer tanks, helicopters and warplanes in an attempt to topple the government.

"It is important that the United States, our friend and ally, display a clear and decisive stance against this terrorist coup attempt against our nation and democracy", Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford during their meeting in Ankara.

Erdogan told the representatives of global firms listening to his speech that he understood the sensitivities of the business community, vowing reforms to make foreign investment more attractive and saying the economic outlook was improving again after a fluctuation following the coup. Its Incirlik Air Base is used by coalition forces for missions against Islamic State.

Ankara accuses the US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen of being behind the plot and has stepped up pressure on the USA authorities to extradite him back to Turkey.

On Tuesday, the Turkish Football federation said it had sacked 94 people, including a number of referees. The preacher denies any involvement in the coup. He added that a total of 311 soldiers were still at large following the coup attempt.
