Koster: Missouri governor race a 'gut check'

The Missouri governor's office will be open because two-term incumbent Jay Nixon, a Democrat, has served the maximum amount allowed under state law and can not seek re-election.

The backgrounds of the four Republicans were one of the few ways they could distinguish themselves in the primary.

He will face Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster in November.

Polls are open until 7 Missouri.

Koster, who once served as a Republican state senator, describes himself as a conservative Democrat. Together, their campaigns already had spent more than $22 million as of July 21, the end of the most recent reporting period.

Greitens won the Missouri primary just days ago, positioning himself as an "outsider" who will "take aim at politics as usual".

In addition to Missouri voters, Greitens has also garnered the attention of conservative billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who donated $200,000 to Greitens' campaign.

"The only office Eric Greitens is qualified for is Hypocrite in Chief", said Kristin Sosanie, spokeswoman at the Missouri Democratic Party. Democrats ended up winning the governor's office that year, as well as most other statewide offices and the USA presidency.

Koster, Missouri's current Attorney General, was expected to easily win his party's nomination over three political unknowns.

Coker's poll, taken in late July, also showed Democrat victor Koster leading all the GOP candidates in a head-to-head battle. He also cited the conservative agenda being pushed by Republicans in neighboring Kansas. "Both parties are needed to bring balance".

This is not Greitens' first ad of its kind.

In the gubernatorial primary, the four Republican candidates generally have agreed on most issues.

Libertarians have also chosen Cisse Spragins to represent them. Greitens has gotten a lot of money from wealthy out-of-state donors.
