Cardinals' Diaz sidelined after being hit on hand by pitch

St. Louis Cardinals' Carlos Martinez wipes his face after allowing a double by Miami Marlins' Marcell Ozuna in the first inning of a baseball game, Sunday, July 31, 2016, in Miami.

The Marlins are missing Justin Bour at first base. The Marlins could feel much better about the early returns on the deal with the Padres if Colin Rea hadn't aborted a promising start Saturday with elbow soreness.

Mike Pelfrey (4-9) pitched five shutout innings to get the win for Detroit.

Derek Dietrich's triple in the ninth lifted the Miami Marlins over the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Sunday. Adeiny Hechavarria then attempted to throw out Pham at home on the relay, but the ball sailed into the stands advancing Piscotty all the way home - tying the game at four.

Pham said he got his glove on the ball but didn't go after it full bore because left fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker was also in pursuit.

"I really didn't spend time thinking about (the short rest)", Garcia said. If I'd have dove, I would have killed myself. "It should have been caught by one of the two of us". "We'll figure out how it all comes together and how we plug them in when we get there", Matheny said.

That move backfired, however, as the next batter, Marcel Ozuna, hit a two-run double.

The team split their four game series with Miami maintaining a one-game lead over the Cardinals for the second wild card spot.

The Cardinals cut the lead in the second inning by one, 3-1, after Kolten Wong reached first on an error by Marlins first basemen Chris Johnson.

Andrew Cashner (4-7) struggled for the most part in San Diego this season, but gave Miami a solid debut performance in the victory.

Tommy Pham homered and drove in three runs, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over the Miami Marlins 11-6 on Friday night. 312 with 14 homers, is to undergo further examinations Monday.

Later in the game Giancarlo Stanton doubled for the 17th time this year. "But that's kind of the Cardinal way over there".

"In the offseason it was mostly just rest and then I started my normal throwing program", Rea said.

"It's a little bit inflamed", Diaz said. I heard that about five years ago Rose did an interview, and he said that he wished that I could break that record. "I don't think overall ugliness is the proper description".

Already possessing a tie breaker over the Dodgers, and needing just a single win to say the same about Pittsburgh, a win tomorrow would be a huge step towards solidifying those playoff chances. He didn't walk anyone and gave up just four hits, including a Greg Garcia home run.

The over is 18-7-2 in the Cardinals last 27 Sunday games and are 20-8 in their last 28 road games while the under is 7-0-1 in Martinez's last 8 on grass.
