The 20-year-old defender had been linked with a loan move to Championship side Newcastle United, but West Brom have beaten the Magpies to secure the youngster's signature.

ALBION have completed the loan signing of Zimbabwe-born defender Brendan Galloway on a season-long agreement.

Should the move go through as expected, Galloway will become only the second arrival at The Hawthorns this summer after Matty Phillips as Albion prepare for a busy final stretch of the transfer window.

"I'm delighted", said Galloway.

Ultimately much hard work lies ahead of Koeman and his players in order to ensure they remain a permanent feature in the upper echelons of this season's English Premier League but they can without question be optimistic of achieving that.

"It's really important to gain more experience".

As well as on the left side of defence, he can also play as a centre-back. "Coming here is the flawless opportunity to do that", he said.

"I can't wait to get started and put the shirt on".

Everton had to come from two goals down to win 3-2 in the corresponding fixture last season, and they were made to fight for the points once again on Saturday.

He has made 21 appearances for Everton, including 16 starts in the top flight.

Lai, who heads the Chinese investment group which at the beginning of this month completed its takeover of the club, saw his team make the flawless start to their home campaign as Gareth McAuley headed Albion into an early lead.
