Tottenham blow as Germany star closes in on Dortmund move

Today, Tottenham are handed a boost in their pursuit of Mario Gotze...

Mario Gotze has chose to leave Bayern Munich and both Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund are considered front-runners for the attacker's signature, according to reports.

Joining Liverpool would have provided him with that, with Klopp keen to add to his attacking ranks, and as the 49-year-old nurtured Gotze to greatness at Dortmund, he provided the ideal fit.

New Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti yesterday did little to dampen down the speculation regarding the future of Gotze, who is believed to interesting his old club Dortmund, when he refused to give the player any future assurances.

Klopp could still be tempted to make a move for Gotze at the end of the summer, but with his squad taking shape at this early stage of pre-season, the chances look slim for Bayern's number 19.

After enjoying two relatively successful seasons with Bayern Munich after moving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013, Gotze struggled last season.

According to the German newspaper Bild, the player's representatives have already held initial talks with Spurs over a possible move to White Hart Lane.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp worked closely with Gotze at Borussia Dortmund and had eyed a potential Anfield reunion.

Gotze has scored 36 goals in 114 appearances during a three-year stint with Bayern.

We'll have to see how things develop over the coming days but I'm sure Tottenham will do all they can to try and lure Gotze to England and I think he'd turn out to be a superb signing for the Lillywhites.
