Prominent Black Lives Matter activist Deray McKesson arrested

Activist DeRay Mckesson, who ran an unsuccessful bid to become Baltimore's mayor previous year, was live streaming a protest against the recent police shooting of Alton Sterling when he was taken into custody along a Louisiana highway.

On Thursday, five white police officers were killed by a suspect named as Micah Johnson, a former U.S. soldier who police said claimed he wanted to kill white people.

They were part of a group of 100 to 200 that moved toward Interstate 110 until officers moved them back.

The two men's deaths in turn spurred a lone shooter in Dallas to kill five police officers during a Black Lives Matter protest.

On Friday, McKnight recalled looking into one police officer's eyes.

Hundreds of protesters marched through Minneapolis on Saturday afternoon without incident, though they were prevented by police from entering a music festival underway in the city.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says that 50 people were arrested during Sunday's protests.

Police arrest a protester Sunday in a residential neighborhood in Baton Rouge. "The protesters remain peaceful here and across the country".

"At a news conference Sunday morning, St. Paul police Chief Todd Axtell called Saturday night the most violent he's seen in his 28-year career", MPR reported. "They seemed to be very organized and peaceful", Cain said.

One officer lost teeth because of a projectile thrown outside police headquarters, and police confiscated three rifles, three shotguns and two pistols during that protest, he wrote in an email.

Kira Marrero, a 22-year-old resident of New Orleans who graduated last year from Williams College in MA, was the first protester freed from Baton Rouge's jail on Sunday.

Overnight, police said close to fifty people were arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while dozens of demonstrators marched down highways and blocked traffic at major intersections in Los Angeles, Baton Rouge, St. Paul, Atlanta and New York City. Protesters were demonstrating against the shooting death Tuesday of Alton Sterling.

Judge Bonnie Jackson was assigned to all of the Saturday night arrests.

"I saw this woman, and she was standing in the first lane in that road", he said.

"We don't want to be profiled as African-Americans, we also can't profile law enforcement because the supermajority of them are trying to do the right thing", he said.

Pender also thanked law enforcement officers who provided security at the rally in Newport and denounced the deadly attack Thursday on police officers at a Black Lives Matter rally in Dallas that left five officers dead. Jenkins said the journal was a key piece of evidence leading police to believe that Johnson was the only shooter.

After a short standoff, protesters carried on with their march.

Some in the crowd chanted "No racist police, no justice, no peace" as rain fell in NY.
