Pokemon GO's first update hits iOS

Niantic, Inc. swiftly issued a statement addressing the issue and took steps to ensure that the app can only access basic profile information from your Google account.

So although the update claims to change Google account permissions, I haven't actually seen that status change in my account.

He did admit to deleting his account, however. Senator Franken poses the idea that many children will be playing this game and that their data is now being considered a "business asset" under Niantic's own Privacy Policy. Reeve recommends that you revoke access to Pokemon Go if it has full access, and delete the app from your iPhone - at least until Niantic updates the game with more reasonable access. I don't know how well they will guard this awesome new power they've granted themselves, and frankly I don't trust them at all.

"Pokemon Go" is a joint project of Niantic Labs, which spun out of Google previous year, and the Pokemon Co., which Nintendo partially owns. "I'm pretty sure it's going to get fixed pretty quickly, but it's not worth the risk".

Pokemon GO, Nintendo's first venture in mobile gaming, which debuted July 6, has become an obsessive habit for millennials - and for those young at heart. The company said the request for full access was "erroneously" made and that the company only collects limited information from Gmail accounts, including email and login ID.

In addition to fixing problems with heavy battery usage, Niantic acknowledges issues regarding Global Positioning System accuracy and stability, situations in which music within the app becomes distorted or delayed, and problems accessing in-app purchased items.

And within 24 hours of its launch, the company's servers had crashed due to its enormous popularity.

To put this into some perspective, Ninatic's previous augmented reality game, Ingress, brought in just $1.1 million since its release.

"Again, we are humbled by the overwhelming response", Niantic writes in the update release notes about the game's status as an overnight sensation.

Ingress is a location-based game in which players capture portals at public landmarks.
