Hillary Clinton's email row rumbles on as Republicans press for new investigation

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Hoover, grilled FBI Director James Comey on the possibility that foreign hackers breached Hillary Clinton's private email server, telling a congressional committee that "there's more to this story than we know".

Wadhams says Republicans need to focus on Hillary Clinton, not Comey.

In a stinging assessment of her email practices as secretary of state, Comey rebuked Clinton and her aides for being "extremely careless" in their handling of classified information and contradicted numerous defenses and explanations she's put forward for months.

"We have no basis to conclude she lied to the FBI", Comey said, answering further questions.

Director Comey explains that the Federal Bureau of Investigation wasn't just looking at what Hillary Clinton did but also what she was thinking when she did it. If you haven't yet watched Rep. Trey Gowdy's brief questioning of James Comey this morning, in which Comey repeatedly said that statements made by Hillary were not true, you should do so. By contrast, Petraeus, who resigned in disgrace from the CIA in 2012, knowingly shared classified information ― war strategies, intelligence capabilities, conversations with President Barack Obama ― with Paula Broadwell, his lover and biographer.

Speaker Ryan seeks to rescind Secretary Clinton's ability to have access to classified material.

"My conclusion was and remains no reasonable prosecutor will bring this case.in 100 years, on gross negligence", Comey said. I don't know why Comey did it as it makes no sense.

"The FBI director himself just said that even though all this mishandling and reckless behavior occurred, compromising sensitive, classified material, he didn't recommend criminal penalties but he did recommend administrative penalties. typically what happens in this case, that person's cut off", said Ryan. "I don't think anything inappropriate was done", Clinton said of her email practices in an April 3 interview on NBC's "Meet the Press".

"I firmly believe that your decision was not based on convenience but conviction", Maryland Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD-7) said. Both of those statements contradict Clinton's testimony in front of the House committee on Benghazi last fall.

Mr Comey, called to attend a hastily convened hearing at the Capitol in Washington DC on Thursday, was accused of having set a "dangerous precedent" that would permit government officials to handle classified information "sloppily" without fear of outcome.
