Elon Musk is Drafting Tesla's Master Plan, Part 2

Almost 10 years after Elon Musk blogged about a Secret Tesla Master Plan that involved building what would become the first luxury sports Model S, the Tesla chairman has hinted he is about ready to drop part two of his Top Secret Tesla Masterplan.

Tesla Motors' goal of shaking up the automobile industry has hit a fresh speed bump as disappointing vehicle production suggests a longer wait before it reaches profitability. "Hoping to publish later this week" comes amid inquiries into two crashes of Tesla cars, as well as ongoing questions regarding Musk's plans to combine his electronic vehicle company, Tesla, with his solar panel maker company SolarCity Corp.

Earlier this year, Musk announced an ambitious goal to produce 500,000 electric cars a year by 2018, which would take Tesla from being a niche producer of luxury sedans to a mainstream competitor in the auto industry.

Tesla and Musk have been hit with a recent string of bad news.

Feds are also investigating a crash that killed 40-year-old Joshua Brown when his Tesla Model S in autopilot mode collided with a truck. Musk is chairman of SolarCity and owns 22% of the company.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is probing two crashes, one of them fatal, involving Tesla vehicles that were running on the Autopilot self-driving system.

As a result, Tesla trimmed its full-year delivery forecasts to 79,000 from the range of 80,000 to 90,000.

It also said claims on delivery are showing a big mismatch.

In it Musk outlines his vision for Tesla, including his plans for the Tesla Roadster, the Model S sedan and the upcoming Model 3 sedan.
