Kentucky Derby 2016 Post Positions Announced

Unbeaten 2-year-old champion Nyquist drew the No. 13 post and was installed as a 3-1 morning line favorite for the 142nd Kentucky Derby during the post-position draw Wednesday at Churchill Downs.

"I've been in 16 Kentucky Derbies and have been fortunate to win four of them", Baffert said.

Nyquist the horse reminds O'Neill of the colt's namesake: Gustav Nyquist of the Detroit Red Wings, Reddam's favorite team.

Show: A bet on a horse to finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. "So we're feeling good".

'Maybe Nyquist isn't getting the respect he deserves because all he does is win, ' said trainer Todd Pletcher.

"Is he going to send hard to clear?"

"I was a good college athlete and athletics put me through college", Cameron said. "That's the most interesting thing". All of Baffert's other Derby candidates fell by the wayside for one reason or another this winter, leaving Mor Spirit still standing.

All these contenders possess the coveted trait horsemen refer to as tactical speed.

Doors will open at Scarborough Downs at 10:00 AM on Saturday with a 12-race live harness racing program commencing at 2:00 PM.

Although a rare feat, Cameron hasn't ruled out the possibility of a second straight Triple Crown victor this year. Nyquist is the early favorite, with Exaggerator the second choice in the 20-horse race.

Asmussen said Creator's behavior before the Arkansas Derby was a tipoff the colt would run well. If you can overlook his final prep, he's playable and should be a decent price. Wicked Strong finished fourth in the 2014 Derby.

Mohaymen, starting alongside Nyquist from the 14th gate, is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. "We were post No. 13 when we won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile".

Outside his barn at Churchill Downs, visitors pull special edition bourbon bottles decorated in Pharoah's teal silks out of plastic grocery bags for the Hall of Fame trainer to sign.

Regarding the Kentucky Derby, also called the fastest two minutes in sports, there are also great traditions, such as the boutique hats, mint juleps, and many crying eyes as the horses are entering the track to the sounds of Steven Foster's "My Old Kentucky Home".

"But it wasn't the post position that beat him", Baffert said. "He's going to have to run better, and he should run better".

It's tough in a 20-horse field to set a morning line, especially with so many talented runners, but I expect Nyquist to go off even lower than the 3-1 morning line he was set at. But California is the second biggest market for tickets, with about 8% of the crowd. "He's got enough speed to hopefully stay in contact with the lead, and we need to be well ahead of the closers". Nyquist has done nothing wrong either, winning from on or near the lead when the pace is slow to closing from a bit further back when the early pace was swift.

Sponsors for this year's event also include Brisnet, which handicaps races; Pepsi, Stella Artois and GH Mumm champagne.

He said he trusts his brother to navigate the cluster of horses likely to be charging from the back Saturday. American Pharoah ran a 105 to win last year's Arkansas Derby; Creator a 96 this year. The rest of the field crumbled before Exaggerator's relentless run in that muddy race.

The complexion of the race might hinge on how front-running Danzing Candy responds to having to break from the outside post, No. 20. Mor Spirit is 12-1, the same odds as Brody's Cause, who drew No. 19.
