Green Bay Packers Pick-by-Pick 2016 NFL Draft Grades

The Green Bay Packers have decided that one of their defensive ends will be playing in the last year of his contract this year, according to a report. Five of their seven draft picks this year come from the West region, where area scout Sam Seale earns his keep.

Jones, a first-round pick in 2013, will make $1,457,264 in salary and bonuses this season.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports that Datone Jones did not have his option accepted for his contract, which means this will be the past year of his option.

Clay Matthews, Damarious Randall, Datone Jones, Nick Perry, and most importantly, the team's MVP quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

If Green Bay could get even close to this kind of production from one of their West Coast defensive prospects from this year's class, they'd be in good shape going forward.

Though Jones hasn't made much of an impact through three seasons, he could become a larger piece of the defense in 2016 as he transitions to "elephant" linebacker position, the same spot played by Julius Peppers. At that time, 2014 first-rounder Ha Ha Clinton-Dix becomes eligible for the team to exercise his option.
