Dell Technologies: New Name Unveiled after Dell-EMC Merger

EMC chair and CEO Joe Tucci (pictured above left) and Dell chair and CEO Michael Dell (pictured above right) fronted the storage supplier's case for datacentre modernisation at EMC World 2016 in Las Vegas.

The moment was sobering, and as he ended his speech the audience gave him a standing ovation.

Dell said that in tomorrow's world "speed, agility and innovation" would be essential for the next industrial revolution taking place.

There's no word yet, however, on whether Michael Dell will be re-branded Michael Dell.

Millard says that the new program has led to a 22 percent profit increase compared to the old Velocity program. "We are staring into a future of infinite possibility". "With Dell, we're over $20bn. From the edge, to the core, to the cloud".

Whether the name Unity was chosen in light of the disruption being caused by the Dell acquisition is unknown, but what is known is that the company is aiming the product at small and medium sized IT deployments.

Dell Technologies will include the combined technologies, companies and brands of Dell, EMC, VMware, Pivotal, SecureWorks, RSA and Virtustream. It's being called "the biggest tech deal ever" as the acquisition is said to carry a $67 billion pricetag.

For Dell customers and client business, the name Dell will remain even on the devices.

Given both Dell and EMC's direct heritage, partners have voiced some concerns about what the duo's plans will be for their channel.
