Microsoft just announced a new Windows 10 Mobile smartphone

Previous rumours have suggested that the Lumia 650 will be Microsoft's last "Lumia" device and that the announced Lumia 750 and Lumia 850 have both been abandoned to focus on the development of what's been dubbed the "Surface Phone".

MICROSOFT HAS ANNOUNCED the Lumia 650, a cheap and cheerful Windows 10 Mobile device that the company hopes will boost its flailing smartphone sales. "It's in that spirit that we designed the Lumia 650 to bring first class to business class; giving our customers the best of Microsoft productivity and security, all wrapped in an attractive slim package".

For specifications, the Microsoft Lumia 650 runs Windows 10 Mobile and features a 5-inch Amoled ClearBlack display with HD (720×1280 pixels) resolution.

The handset measures 142mm x 70.9mm x 6.9mm and weighs 122g. It will be available only in matte black or matte white and features an eight-megapixel (MP) main camera and five-MP selfie-shooter. The chipset is Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 with Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 and Adreno 304 GPU. It would appear that France is one of those European markets, as Microsoft France has released a hands-on video with the new device.

Microsoft's Lumia 650 appears to be part of the "effective phone portfolio" that will target businesses.

Despite the low price, the aluminium-framed model looks somewhat more luxurious than the two troubled "flagship" Lumia 950 models which emerged late previous year and were criticised for their use of budget polycarbonate plastic. With a pixel density of 297ppi, Lumia 650 equips 16GB internal storage (expandable up to 200GB via microSD card).

Microsoft has been a company which has been surprising the users at times they least expect it. This news has been confirmed via the official Windows Blog of Microsoft, where the company has added a PDF link titled "Lumia 650 User Guide Cricket".

According to PC Advisor, the other features of the device are 4G LTE (with Cat 4), 11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, A-GPS and an FM radio.
