Oakland Raiders: 3 things we learned after road win over Cleveland Browns

The Browns couldn't keep their momentum going a week after quarterback Johnny Manziel led them to a win in their home opener. Del Rio told his team in a video posted by the club's website. The Raiders had to do a better job covering their guy.

McCown acknowledged that the Raiders game was his first extended action in almost a month, since the third preseason game in Tampa Bay August29.

McCown, who was cleared Wednesday from his concussion and re-instated ahead of Manziel, couldn't say if coming off the head injury contributed to his sluggish start, one in which he netted only 35 yards on his first three drives and punted on all three. "I know that".

McCown overthrew Benjamin and Taylor Gabriel on deep balls early, then underthrew Benjamin on a deep ball to start the final drive from the 2-yard line. His talent for accumulating yards after each catch, by making tacklers miss, gets Carr even more fired up.

Plus, veteran safety Charles Woodson came up with a victory-ensuring interception late in the fourth quarter.

The Oakland Raiders and Chicago Bears square off Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.

"Yeah I think it meant a lot for coach to get his first win, especially the way we did it", he said. "This team hadn't won on the road yet". "If we just go out and do what we do, just like we do in practice, we saw we can score points against one of the best teams in the league". "My favorite one today was the in-route across the middle - because I like watching him after the catch", Carr said.

The Raiders defense celebrates a late interception by safety Charles Woodson (No. 24) to seal a victory over the Browns Sunday.

Del Rio was pleased to establish the current Raiders road-worthy. Andy Dalton is playing mistake-free at QB, something out of the ordinary, and the Bengals are once again getting a pass rush from defensive tackle Geno Atkins, the league's best a couple of years back before being injured. "Chapter 3 for us, and we like the way it was written". Latavius Murray is needed as a rushing relief valve that can occasionally break out (Sunday, 26 carries for 139 yards).

Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack (52) hits Cleveland...

"It's important to have weapons available", Del Rio said. "We're going to see if we can remove that cloaking device".

"We wanted the crowd to be a little quieter on offense so we could operate as an offense", center Alex Mack said. I'm taking the Raiders and the small chalk on the road in more of a fade from the Bears.

The good news though, is the Raiders - and their defense - did just enough to win the game and move to 2-1 on the season. "We talked about establishing the run with the team, so that's something we'll never get away from".

DT C.J. Wilson did not finish the game with a calf injury and his status for this week's game against Chicago is not known.

CB David Amerson, claimed off waivers from Washington during the week, played 34 snaps and held up well in coverage. The Raiders ran for 155 yards (the Browns had 39). That's also a big deal for a team that, before Sunday, hadn't started 2-1 in four years. Through three games, the Browns' run defense is giving up 158.3 yards per game. It was a heavy and steady dose of Cooper all day to be sure, but Carr made effective use of his other pass catchers and didn't allow the Browns to simply key on the rookie all game long. He took his first one back 9 yards, but on his second try he lost 9 yards after fielding it on a bounce and going backward while trying to make something out of nothing. The yards and catches were career highs. The Raiders sacked McCown five times.

The Browns first signed Davis on September7, two days after he was waived by the Rams. "We were able to make some big runs because of it". The loss dropped Cleveland two games back of AFC North leader Cincinnati, with a challenging stretch of games on the horizon.
